Port
Townsend, Washington
Port
Townsend is a quiet Victorian seaport at the tip of the Olympic Peninsula
in Washington. It's only a short drive and a delightful ferry ride to
Seattle, yet it's so peaceful it seems worlds away from the hustle and
bustle of big city life.
Port
Townsend is noted as an Historic Victorian seaport on the Olympic Peninsula
in Northwest Washington. Visitors to our beautiful area enjoy staying
in the many Victorian homes which have been converted into Bed and Breakfasts
and touring others that are open to the public during the Victorian Homes
Tours. Downtown, there are many unusual shops and a diverse array of restaurants,
including a brewery, Thai, Mexican, Italian, sushi, and of course, fresh
seafood.
Port Townsend
enjoys a mild climate with only 17 inches of annual rainfall, allowing
outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, golf, tennis, and more to be
enjoyed all year round. Port
Townsend is surrounded by water - the Straits of Juan de Fuca, Admiralty
inlet, and Discovery Bay. So it's little wonder that we have so many water
sports
- fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, scuba diving, and of course,
beach combing.
Fort Worden State Park is not only a great place to enjoy the miles
of hiking trails and the beaches, but it is home to Centrum
Foundation, an organization bringing top notch performing arts to
Port Townsend.
Port
Townsend is located in Jefferson
County which has a population of under 30,000 even though it is the
18th largest county in Washington state. It stretches from the Pacific
Ocean to Puget Sound with the Olympic Mountains and the Olympic National
Park and Olympic National Forest taking up much of the center. There are
many beautiful places to enjoy - beaches, the ocean, the mountains, rivers,
and farms.
There's
much to do in and around Port Townsend. We have several festivals during
the year - Rhododendron Festival, Victorian Homes Festival, Kinetic Sculpture
Race, Port Townsend Film Festival, and several music festivals ranging
from classical
music in a barn to jazz
in the clubs of Port Townsend. There's mountains where you can go
camping and hiking, miles of beaches to play on, and lots of parks to
enjoy. Victoria, B.C., is only a short drive and a ferry ride away.
Come visit.....you'll
want to stay.
